Single-Player RPG

Category: Accessible Games

I'm looking for an accessible single-player rpg that I can either play online or download. I'm trying to avoid things where remembering locations is hugely important as I get lost in large places where I have to remember direction etc. As fun as they can be, I'm also looking for something besides fighting fantasies. I want to see what other creative ideas are out there. Any suggestions?

try Entoomed its really cool go to www.audiogames.net click on the game list link then select that game, but don't use the download link on that page. Choose the eurl link instead, which will take you to the main sight. from their you should be able to download it.

hmmm single player rpgs... the only one that comes to mind is Sryth. Great game. It's free, but you can pay 25 dollars for more advanced quests.

I used to play an RPG called Popmundo. It was originally a music RPG (create a band and travel the world to try and make it to the top of your genre), but has evolved into a community where it's possible to become a doctor, firefighter, police officer, or cook, among other professions. It's possible to play alone as a solo musician, though it is often more fun to find others to be in a band with you. I will warn you though that the game is very slow paced. Character updates take place on average twice per day and experience points only get distributed once per week (to improve attributes such as looks, musicality, and IQ) after you run out of the newbie points. Many of the features are free but extras such as marriage, having children, running a company, and blogging to really get into the roleplay must be paid for to access. The site is at http://www.popmundo.com

hello, Sryth is a good game as long as you pay, you can play for free but you will find it hard to login at times. kingdom of loathing is 1 of my favorites, there are a few threads about it, if you need any help just let me know.

Actually it's only twenty dollars a year for a Sryth subscription, which given the sheer volume of content you then get access to is pretty damn good. And it's the most accessible, not to mention the most addicting and enjoyable, RPG I've played. I myself have been a Srythian as we say for about five years, since before what we now call the Adventurers' Guild, that being the subscription, came into being. When I first started playing the game you had to buy some new adventures, albeit for less than five bucks mostly, individually. But the GM in his wisdom decided that a flat subscription fee would be the better way to go. He has three subscription packages, each of which gives you unrestricted and unlimited access to all game content for the allotted time. I think it's three, six or twelve months. And since it's only twenty bucks for a year's subscription it's well worth it, especially now that we often see new content every few weeks and sometimes a few times a week. It wasn't long ago at all, say about a year, that we would sometimes go for six months without seeing an update but those days are long gone now that the GM has made Sryth a fulltime project.

don't the people who play free also get content updates?

Post 9 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Wednesday, 21-Oct-2009 23:19:06

They do get some, but not as often as subscribers. The thing here is that Sryth is the Gamemaster's ONLY means of supporting himself, so he has to run things this way. It's really a small price to pay for such an accessible game and accomodating GM. Actually given the amount of content a subscriber has unlimited access to for the duration of his term, I'm surprised at the low cost. Twenty dollars a year? And we often get updates several times a month. This is a major change from even just three years ago, when we were often lucky to see an update every six months.

Well I just did some research and discovered that I wasn't entirely accurate before. Sryth does indeed offer three packages but they're all for a year's subscription. The other two packages are for if you want any Adventurer Tokens Actually though, you do get adventurer tokens for subscribing anyway, but the higher priced packages give you more. For twenty dollars you get eight tokens, for 39 you get forty, and for fifty dollars you get eighty tokens. Besides, if you subscribe you won't have to deal with being locked out because too many free players are on the server.

oh my god i am just in love with sryth. lol it's just the best out of all the rpg's i played.
and i didn't know about this change in the subscription packages, it really used to be the way you said before, 3 packages for 3, 6 and 12 months. speaking of which, mine ended and need to renew it so i can keep doing great stuff with my awesome character

As I said before I've been playing the game for five years. Definitely well worth the time.

I was looking for another of my posts an found this one. I have no clue how I missed all these posts! I'd still be interested in finding an easy single player rpg. However, I'm not interested in anything that I'd need to buy. I'd prefer freeware or abandonware. It can be Windows or DOS-based, only if it's the latter, please tell me the real interpretor, if any, that I'd need and not the Windows equivalent. Thanks.

Ah Well I don't know of anything like that. Sryth is the only game i've found that's both accessible and manages to keep my interest. I've been playing it now for almost six years.

What about all the text adventure games? Surely, there must be something out there that's fun and exciting but easy enough for a beginner. I found two games, Braminar and Drone, on the audiogames.net site, that seem to fit my needs. But neither of them have working links. Does anyone have these or something similar?

Wish I could help you there. But I was never really into that sort of thing.

look for reliques of TolTiaf on Ifwiki. It's an rpg text adventure in .zblorb format I've never played it myself, but people say it's awesome.

I talked to Bryanp22 about this a couple of days ago, but how do I contact the developer? I made an AG account, and followed the upgrade process, but I couldn't play with the character that was upgraded to AG status. Then I couldn't log in at all, and when I did, it just said that I had to renew my membership via PayPal. so I went and moved on to other things (mainly Monster breeder which I realy like) but now I want to get back into Sryth. Any suggessions?

There is a email link to the GM.on the sryth web page. And if you are looking for text adventures, try infocom. The link to it can be found at,audiogames.net,go to winfrost and look at the page.and you might find a cool game.

I thought that the Infocom games were all still commercial. Which interpretor will I need? I know they mention it in the really early issues of Audyssey but I just woke up a few minutes ago and it's not coming to mind. The only ones I know of are TADS, Inform and Frotz.

I’m not sure exactly what you are looking for, but if you want information about interactive fiction games, try BAF’s Guide to the Interactive Fiction Archive.

You may have already heard of it, but I haven’t seen this site listed here, and didn’t find it in a search. The web address is:

Hope this helps,

Matt the GM's Email is gamemaster@sryth.com. It might take a little time and yes, he does have a Spam filter that has been known to get in the way. But I've noticed that he's very accomodating if there's a problem with your account, within reason of course. I'd drop him a line and find out if there's anything you can do. I'm sure he'll be able to help you out. I'd hate for you to miss out on an excellent game over this.

Yeah ,all the infocom games are commercial, but the games are hosted on that site. The admin of the web page, has stated that ,as all this games are no longer available,or sold, he is hosting them.Anyways it was something like this.Go to that web page and read the disclaimer. When you go to the win frotz page, you'll find a few links to the games.
